Bowling for Soup Album Review

Bowling For Soup – Sorry For Partyin’

Album review by Brendan Monteiro

Sorry For Partyin’ is the 8th installment from the all american slapstick punkers. Bowling For Soup are a band that don’t really do many things overly original sound wise apart from the opening track on this album, they play comical straight up pop punk in every essence of what those words could possibly mean. The difference between themselves and every other band that does the same thing is their commitment to their style, which is truly admirable. After 15 years and 8 10 records of pubescent humor many bands would try and change things up but BFS stick true to their guns, why fix something if it isn’t broken hey. A truly amazing thing is that they keep their contents of their jokes fresh from album to album, to put it plainly these guys would run a riot on a Saturday Night Live show.

So back to Sorry For Partyin’, which surprisingly starts off in charade of dance beats that just oozes BFS and their hilarious brand of music, A Really Cool Dance Song takes me back to 1992 with NOFX and their classic “attempt” at infiltrating the airwaves with Please Play This Song On The Radio. It’s absurd but there is no denying the fact that BFS know how to put together a song that will get you moving around like a gyrating maniac. My Wena is the first single off the record and I think that the title speaks for itself, it showcases Jaret Reddick’s remarkable ability to talk his way around such a “touchy” subject case without stepping over the line and sounding crass. Other songs that grab my attention include Me With No You just because it’s a really good song through and through, then there’s I Gotchoo which feels like a Crazytown/OPM mix up with a little Vanilla Ice spread in for good flavour.

All in all this is a good record, it’s nothing breakthrough but it has some really great moments and is probably their most fun album they have put out. My suggestion, grab a keg and this album, and party like they do in the movies.
