Cosmo Jarvis at Water Rats
Cosmo Jarvis – Monto Water Rats – 24 November 2009

Modern times has the music scene in such a spin with who’s big and who’s the next artist to watch out for but if I were to go down to Ladbrokes and place my bet it would be on a young guy called Cosmo Jarvis. His debut album is a musical kaleidoscope of styles and genres all neatly sealed in a double disc with the most comical album cover of the year.
There might not be to many people for the opening band but as the sweet sounds of You Got Your Head filter around the Water Rats the few people milling around start paying attention and soon enough the venue has a steady little crowd around. Cosmo play’s with such a unique attitude, as if he couldn’t give a shit if you like what you hear or not and this just makes him so much more of an attraction. I hate giving out examples of “what they sounded like” but a stab in the dark would be that Cosmo Jarvis is like a ghetto Jack Johnson, he has that island charm combined with the sharp reality of the real world. Songs like Problems and Clean My Room force me to just want to sing a long like a mad hippy.
Gay Pirates and it’s romantic witty mandolin awesomeness is a superb ending to one of my favourite shows of the year. If you have not seen or heard of Cosmo Jarvis then you have not lived yet!
