Futures Album Review

Futures – The Holiday

Words by Aimee Davis

The Holiday, the mini debut album from Futures is simplicity disguised with melodic guitar solos and intricate drum beats but underneath they have a sound that we have heard all too often before. Not saying it’s a bad thing but if you’re looking for originality then don’t count on this band for it.

They have cashed in on the wave of pop-punk that is dominating our airwaves at the moment, their sound is similar to that of Kids in Glass House and You Me At Six and who can really blame them as clearly they have found the formula that works.

If you can get past the cliché guitar solos and lyrics that lack any real depth or substance, ‘I know I always sleep with the light on just in case they see I only dare to doze at night. ’, then Futures offer an album that exudes energy with catchy choruses and upbeat hooks teamed with a happy vibe more commonly found in an American teen drama’s soundtrack.

The Summer is the stand out track, with a more heavier, drum thrashing, catch your attention kind of sound. It is a welcomed change from the previous pop orientated songs that leave you wishing this band would take it a bit further and stop trying to create songs that appeal to the hearts of young teenage girls.

They have the ingredients there but fail to deliver any impact instead they are predictable with seven tracks all on a similar level.
