“Grown-up is a good look for the sisters, who write about romantic obsession much more compellingly than the majority of their peers.
Tegan and Sara will play their biggest UK headline show to date this summer with a landmark performance at London’s Roundhouse on June 24th which will be followed by a set at Glastonbury’s John Peel Stage the following day. To coincide with the live dates, the Canadian duo will release the new single ‘Alligator’ on June 21st on Vapor / Sire / Warner Bros. Records.

‘Alligator’ is the second single from Tegan and Sara’s current album ‘Sainthood’, which was released in October 2009. The album was produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla (who also produced the duo’s 2007’s critically acclaimed ‘The Con’) and Howard Redekopp (who produced 2004’s groundbreaking effort ‘So Jealous’), and mixed by Grammy Award winner Dave Sardy (Oasis, Primal Scream).

The single will be available digitally with a vast array of remixes courtesy of artists including Passion Pit, Four Tet and Holy Fuck. A special five track remix bundle is available to pre-order from iTunes now.

Tickets for the London Roundhouse show are available now from http://www.livenation.co.uk/event/13354/tegan-and-sara-tickets at a price of £17.50.

Tegan and Sara were first signed to Vapor Records in 2000 by Elliot Roberts and Neil Young and ‘Sainthood’ represents their sixth studio album to date. It ‘Sainthood’ addresses secular themes of devotion, delusion and exemplary behaviour in the pursuit of love and relationships. The thirteen track album focuses on themes of obsession with romantic ideals. The title is borrowed from the lyrics of the Leonard Cohen song ‘Came So Far For Beauty’ – “I practised all my sainthood / I gave to one and all / But the rumours of my virtue / They moved her not at all.”

Over the course of their career, Tegan and Sara have toured with Neil Young, The Killers, Ryan Adams, Death Cab For Cutie and Ben Folds and appeared on the David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien shows. Their songs have been covered by artists including The White Stripes, Alkaline Trio and Cancer Bats. Tegan and Sara also recently collaborated with Tiësto on the track ‘Feel It In My Bones’ which features on the Dutch electronic producer’s recent album ‘Kaleidoscope’.

Support from The Young Guns

Words by Tiaan Kotze / Photos courtesy of iTunes Festival

As I got the call early this week asking if I wanted to review the Fightstar show I reluctantly accepted, as the week dragged on I was looking for any excuse to cancel but finally Thursday arrived and no escape could be made. Having not paid much attention to Fightstar over the years, partly because Charlie Simpson is that guy that used to be in ‘Busted’, and the music didn’t really interest me. But tonight I felt a little regret at my preconceptions as they blew my mind with an incredibly tight and powerful set.

As they announce Fightstar in 7 minutes the whole venue starts buzzing with excitement and the floor slowly fills up. The band takes to the stage two by two and of cause the loudest roar is when Charlie steps to the plate. They start off with some fast paced songs getting the crowd in the mood and small pits open sporadically with bodies being flung around, this continues during the set and just gets bigger and more intense. They build a strong bond during the night with their audience, making it feel more like a garage show in someones backyard rather than one of London’s biggest venues.

The band keeps it interesting, flowing between new and old favourites like ‘Palahniuk’s laughter‘, ‘Never Change‘, ‘War Machine‘ and the piano driven ‘Floods‘ showing some versatility and keeping the crowd on their toes. The sound and visual effects are amazing but you wouldn’t expect anything less from the iTunes festival.

As the night rolls on I find that there is something missing and I finally narrow it down, the band isn’t moving much and there is almost no showmanship. I realize that even though the music is powerful and energetic I have seen more movement at a boules game. This still doesn’t take away from the incredible talent these guys showcase by effortlessly throwing slow and fast songs at you and keeping your foot tapping throughout the night.

All I can say is make your way out to their next show and you will be pleasantly surprised.
